Group A

Basel (4th) vs Arsenal (2nd)

Arsenal’s aim to finish top of their group totally depends on PSG’s result against Ludogorets, hence why a win may not be enough for Arsenal to get top of Group A.  Arsenal in their last champions league outing drew 2-2 with PSG which saw them blow their chance for reaching top of the group.  They have already qualified for the knockout stages and are level on points with PSG, but PSG hold the advantage on their head to head record. Basel on the other hand are still looking to finish ahead of Ludogorets in order for them to reach a spot in the Europa League.  They currently lay 4th in the table with same the same amount of points as Ludogorets but they are also behind on the head to head record.

Prediction:  Despite Arsenals disadvantage away they will come for all the points, 3-1 Arsenal.

PSG (1st) vs Ludogorets (3rd)

Group A is PSG’s for the taking, all they need to do is get a win against Ludogorets.  Along with Arsenal, PSG have already qualified for the next stage of the Champions League and are currently lying top of group A.  In PSG’s last outing against Ludogorets they ran out 3-1 winners.  Ludogorets aim to finish in 3rd where they are now so that they can achieve a Europa League place.  They really just need to rely on Basel losing against Arsenal which is quite a likely prospect.

Prediction:  PSG will have the home advantage and will most likely put many goals past Ludogorets, 4-0 PSG.

Group B

Benfica (1st) vs Napoli (2nd)

Group B is still a tightly knit contest where either Napoli, Benfica and Besiktas will end up missing out on the Champions League.  Napoli and Benfica will battling it out in Lisbon on Tuesday night and we will see the winner of the two teams finish top of Group B.  Napoli are on good form and in their last game against Benfica in Italy ran out winners.  All Napoli need from this match is a draw in order to get though to the next round of the competition regardless of the result that Besiktas get against Dynamo Kyiv.  Benfica are going into this match needing a win and being only 1 point above Besiktas.  A draw could jeopardise Benfica’s place in the competition if Besiktas pick up a win.  The same of course is for Napoli who are level on points with Benfica.

Prediction:  Benfica should run out winners with their home advantage, they have all to play for and need to get the result, 1-0 Benfica.

Dynamo Kyiv (4th) vs Besiktas (3rd)

Dynamo are playing for nothing except their pride in this final game of the group stages against Besiktas.  Kyiv haven’t won in any of their 5 Champions League game and only achieve 2 draws across the whole of their campaign and they have no hopes of qualifying to the later rounds.  Besiktas could make it to their first Champions League knockout match if they are to win this fixture over Kyiv and there is just a draw between Napoli in Benfica.

Prediction:  Besiktas will be coming into the game to wanting to make history for their side and should pick up a win away from home, 2-0 Besiktas.

Group C

Barcelona (1st) vs Borussia Mönchengladbach (3rd)

Barcelona have already qualified from group C and are lying first in Group C above Manchester City.  They confirmed their position as top in the group after a 2-0 win over Celtic in their last match.  This last game is merely a formality for Barcelona to increase their home unbeaten record.  Borussia Monchengladbach lie 3rd in the group and have qualified for the Europa League so there really is little to play for in the game for Monchengladbach, all they could aim to do is give their fans something to cheer for away from home.

Prediction:  Barcelona should easily come away with a win from this match at their home ground so they can continue their unbeaten home record.  2-0 Barcelona.

Manchester City (2nd) vs Celtic (4th)

Again there is nothing to play for in this final match for either team, both of them have confirmed their places in the group in their last game.  Both managers can rest key players in these games to ensure no bans or injuries for their league games.  In their last Champions League game, Manchester City draw at home with Borussia Monchengladbach 1-1, this cause City to miss out on the to spot in the league.  Celtic on the other hand lost away from home at Spanish giants Barcelona 2-0.

Prediction:  Manchester City should win with their home advantage, 2-0 Manchester City.

Group D

Bayern Munich (2nd) vs Atlético Madrid (1st)

Certainly what will be the match of the evening on Tuesday night.  Bayern Munich may not be able to catch Atletico with a win in this fixture but certainly a win in this fixture for them will help to give them a momentum into the next round.  Atletico have won all 5 of their games in the Champions League.  Bayern however have their home form on their side with a 15 game unbeaten run in the Champions League.  Bayern in their last game were humbled 3-2 by Rostov, whilst Atletico saw off PSV Eindhoven in a 2-0 win to seal their top of the table spot.

Prediction:  Bayern should win this fixture in what will be a tight fixture for both teams, Bayern Munich 3-2.

PSV Eindhoven (4th) vs Rostov (3rd)

PSV really need to get a win in this match so they can have a chance at stealing Rostov’s Europa league spot from them.  PSV are yet to pick up a win in this years tournament and only have a point to their name in this year competition.  Rostov have 4 points to their name after a win over Bayern Munich and a draw against PSV.  PSV in their last outing lost 2-0 to Ateltico.  Whilst Rostov in their previous fixture came away with a 3-2 win.

Prediction: Rostov have won when they need to in this competition and should keep in with their winning ways in this fixture, 2-1 Rostov.

Group E

Bayer Leverkusen (2nd) vs AS Monaco (1st)

Both teams have already confirmed their places in the next round of the Champions League, after AS Monaco destroyed Spurs’ chances of qualifying into the next round after a 2-1 victory in their previous.  Leverkusen on the other hand go into the match with a 1-1 draw against CSKA Moscow.  Both teams remain unbeaten in the Champions League this season, their positions will remain unchanged in the group regardless of what result the match has.

Prediction:  This will be a thriller of a match and I don’t think a win will be achieved by either team, 3-3.

Tottenham Hotspur (3rd) vs CSKA Moscow (4th)

The most important match of the evening in Group E will decide whether Spurs or CSKA Moscow will qualify for the Europa League.  CSKA Moscow are yet to record a win in this season’s competition and really need a win to be in with a chance of qualifying for the next round.  Moscow however have picked up 3 draws in the competition leaving them on 3 points in the group, 1 point behind Spurs, so either way both teams have a result to play for.  A draw or win will see Spurs will through to the Europa League, whereas only a win will see CSKA Moscow through to the Europa League.

PredictionSpurs will want to exit this season’s Champions League with a bang and I can certainly see them coming away with a win in this fixture, 3-1 Spurs.

Group F

Legia Warsaw (4th) vs Sporting Lisbon (3rd)

Legia Warsaw are this seasons worst Champions League side without a win any of their matches with only 1 point from all 5 of their games.  This disappointing campaign included the highest scoring game in Champions League history, a 8-4 loss to Borussia Dortmund.  Across all of their matches in this seasons Champions League they have conceded 24 goals.  Sporting have only 2 more points than Warsaw meaning that they still could potentially achieve a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League.  Warsaw must win his match to qualify whereas Sporting only need a draw in order to get a qualification into the next round of the Europa League.

Prediction:  Sporting should be able to easily see off Warsaw in this fixture despite being away from home in this fixture.  2-0 Sporting.

Real Madrid (2nd) vs Borussia Dortmund (1st)

Dortmund are currently top of Group F with 13 points to their name after 5 matches.  Real Madrid are on their tail with 11 points.  Both teams have already secured qualification into the next round but the match on Wednesday night will be the clincher for who comes top of the Group.  A draw is enough for Dortmund to stay top of the table, while Madrid will need a win in order to overtake Dortmund.

PredictionReal Madrid have the home advantage going into this game and they should be able to record a great win over Dortmund despite it being a tight match, 2-1 Real Madrid.

Group G

Club Brugge (4th) vs FC Copenhagen (3rd)

Brugge have failed to win a single game in the Champions League so far this season.  They are currently in 4th with 0 points and are 6 points behind Copenhagen, so either way Brugge have nothing to play for except their pride in this fixture.  Copenhagen need a win in order to get into the next round of the Champions League.  A defeat in this match will see Copenhagen settle for the Europa League.  They really need to worry about the result that Porto get against Leicester if Porto lose or draw and Copenhagen win, Copenhagen will make it through to the next round of the Champions League as they have the head to head advantage over Porto.

Prediction:  Copenhagen should get the away win in this fixture as they will want to get their fans to the next round of the Champions League.  2-0 FC Copenhagen.

Porto (2nd) vs Leicester City (1st)

Leicester are top of Group G either way and will be looking to bring a win home from this fixture to further impress the English crowd despite them performing below par in the Premier League.  They have picked up 4 wins and a draw so far in the Champions League and hold a total of 13 points to their name.  Porto need a win from this match to guarantee their place in the next round, a draw from this match could see them settle for only Europa League spots as FC Copenhagen hold a better Head to Head record over them in the competition.

Prediction: Leicester should complete their Champions League campaign with a win over Leicester in Portugal.  Porto will want the result more and need a win so will most likely hold out for a draw until late on.  3-2 Leicester.

Group H

Juventus (1st) vs Dinamo Zagreb (4th)

Juventus have qualified for the next round of the Champions League already with 11 points to their name and top of the group.  In Juventus’s last fixture against Zagreb they ended up running at 4-0 winners.  Zagreb are rock bottom of Group H with 0 points to their name losing all 5 of their matches, they have also not scored once in the competition.  Zagreb will just be playing for pride in their last European match for the season.

Prediction: Another big win for Juventus over Dinamo Zagreb should happen as Juventus see themselves through to the next round of the Champions League.  4-0 Juventus.

Olympique Lyonnais (3rd) vs Sevilla (2nd)

Lyon will need to win this match by 2 or more goals in this fixture in order to see them beat Sevilla in to the next round of the campaign.  Lyon lost 1-0 in their previous match against Sevilla and a 1-0 revenge win will not be enough, they need the 2 goal win to see themselves through to the next round of the Champions League.  Lyon find themselves currently 3rd in the group with 7 points and Sevilla find themselves 2nd in the group with 10 points to their name.  All Sevilla need in this fixture is a draw in order to see them through to the next round of the competition.  In their last fixture they lost 3-1 to group leaders Juventus.  All they need to do is at most lose by 1 goal and they will be through to the next round.

Prediction:  Lyon should win the game but not by enough goals seeing them not go through to the next round of the competition. Lyon 2-1.
