Sam Allardyce has taken charge of Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace as previous manager Alan Pardew is sacked.

This is Allardyce’s first managerial position, since he was removed from his position as England manager due to a newspaper sting claiming he offered advice on how to get around rules on player transfers.  The FA described his conduct as “inappropriate”.  Allardyce was appointed as England manager after managing to save Sunderland from relegation last season and is faced with the same task this season, taking charge of a Crystal Palace side who have only won once in their last 11 fixtures and find themselves 1 point above the drop zone.  It seems that Allardyce feels very confident of the task ahead of him of keeping Palace in the Premier League, describing the position that Palace are in as not as difficult compared to the position that Sunderland were in this time last season.

Sam Allardyce has previously been manager of Premier League sides such as Bolton, Blackburn, Newcastle, West Ham and Sunderland, and is known as veteran for saving sides from relegation.  He takes charge of his first game at Crystal Palace against Watford on Boxing Day, will he be able to bring Crystal Palace fans their Christmas wish of a win??  We will find out very soon!
