As 2017 starts, so does the January transfer window – and here is a look at some of the signings that could be made by the La Liga clubs.

Some of the players mentioned in this article

John Obi Mikel (Chelsea)

Linked with: Valencia

The long serving Chelsea midfielder is currently looking likely to leave Chelsea as he isn’t part of Antonio Conte’s plans. The Nigerian’s preferred destination is Valencia, but they can only sign one of him or Simone Zaza due to FFP restrictions.

Darijo Srna (Shakhtar)

Linked with: Barcelona

Barcelona’s struggles at right back are well documented, but there are many sources in Spain now saying that the Catalan club have agreed a €30m deal with Valencia for Joao Cancelo, but he won’t move until the summer – leaving Barcelona still needing a natural right back to get them to the end of the season. Srna is a good choice, as he has experience in the Champions League with Shakhtar, and wouldn’t cost too much at 34 years old.

Dayot Upamecano (RB Salzburg)

Linked with: Barcelona

Barcelona are firm advocates in youth with their famed La Masia academy – and the latest name to be linked to them is Dayot Upamecano, a French centre back plying his trade in the Austrian Bundesliga. He has impressed in his short career – and is currently being linked with a whole host of top clubs across Europe. It looks likely that he will either go to Barcelona (because of La Masia), or to RB Leipzig – due to the commercial links between the clubs.

Josabed Sanchez (Fulham)

Linked with: Léganes

Jozabed Sanchez hasn’t been able to nail down a starting spot in the Fulham side so far this season, so the London club are considering sending him on loan to a club in La Liga – with Léganes the only interested side so far. Sanchez is no stranger to La Liga, being part of the Rayo Vallecano side who were relegated last season.

Jesé (PSG)

Linked with: Las Palmas

With PSG finally announcing the arrival of Julian Draxler, the chances of Jesé leaving have increased quite a bit. The first club to be linked with him were Las Palmas, but their finances are such that they would only be able to take him on loan, whilst other interested teams are able to buy him outright. However, Jesé has stated that he would prefer to go to Las Palmas, so it could happen.

Adrian Ramos (Borussia Dortmund)

Linked with: Granada

Ramos rarely plays for Dortmund due to the form of Aubameyang, so there are a few rumours flying around that a Chinese side are prepared to make an €8m offer for him, before sending him off on loan to Granada for the rest of the season.

Adalberto Peñaranda (Watford)

Linked with: Malaga

The talented young forward has had his injury problems during his loan spell at Udinese, so it looks likely that his loan spell will be terminated, and he will get a fresh start on loan at Malaga until the end of the season. He has been sighted at Malaga’s training ground ahead of his medical.
