As 2017 starts, so does the January transfer window – and here is a look at some of the signings that could be made by the Serie A clubs.

Gerard Deulofeu (Everton)

Linked with: AC Milan

Ronald Koeman doesn’t rate the former Barcelona player, and is willing to ship him out as part of his ongoing reshaping of the Everton squad. Unfortunately, as he hasn’t played much in the last few years there is very little interest in him – AC Milan only have competition from Middlesbrough. In terms of the fee, it looks like it will be a loan – probably with an option to buy.

Serge Gnabry (Werder Bremen)

Linked with: Lazio and Napoli

When Arsenal sold Gnabry in the summer, their fans would be forgiven for not caring too much. However, he has gone from strength to strength in a struggling Werder Bremen side, and is now likely to leave due to a release clause of £6.5m in his contract. Napoli and Lazio are both interested, with the deals potentially having Gnabry loaned back to Bremen until the end of the season.

Charly Musonda (Chelsea)

Linked with: Roma

Injury problems have cut short Charly Musonda’s loan spell at Real Betis, so Chelsea are looking at other potential loan destinations for the talented winger. As a result of his superb displays in Spain, there are rumours of a switch to Roma until the end of the season – which would help Musonda to get the top level experience he needs to further develop his game.

Lucas Leiva (Liverpool)

Linked with: Inter Milan

After falling down the pecking order at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp is willing to let Lucas leave on a short term loan deal to Inter Milan. The problem is Inter’s money issues, which could see them miss out on most of their transfer targets in this window.

Davide Santon (Inter Milan)

Linked with: Sampdoria

Santon is out of favour at Inter Milan, so they are looking to shift him temporarily – but the player himself is only willing to leave San Siro on a permanent basis, which could be the stumbling block on a deal to go to Sampdoria. They are willing to offer a loan with an option to buy but Santon won’t accept that. Inter and Santon would probably be OK with a loan with an obligation to buy though.

Simone Zaza (West Ham)

Linked with: Fiorentina, Lazio and Genoa

It really hasn’t worked out for Zaza ever since that penalty in the Euro’s, and his poor form continued during his loan to West Ham. They have absolutely no intention of buying Zaza permanently, so a move back to Serie A looks likely – several teams are interested, with a loan move again the more likely option.

Roberto Gagliardini (Atalanta)

Linked with: Juventus and Inter Milan

The young Atalanta midfielder is currently at the centre of a tug-of-war between Juventus and Inter Milan, with both sides keen to bring him into their teams. Most reports have Inter as the favourites, especially as Juventus have just signed Tomás Rincón (who plays in the same position). Any deal will almost certainly need Inter to raise the funds first as they are in trouble with FIFA because of breaching FFP rules.
